Kratom
What It Is
Kratom is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia. Its leaves contain compounds called alkaloids (primarily Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine), which interact with the body’s opioid receptors and have stimulant or sedative effects, depending on the strain and dosage.
Effects
In an energy drink, kratom is typically used for its stimulating effects at lower doses. It can improve focus, increase energy, and elevate mood. At higher doses, it may have sedative or pain-relieving effects.
Chemotype
Different kratom chemotypes come about because of slight genetic or epigenetic changes causing a change in the metabolites produced by the plant while maintaining the same morphology. This is why kratom from different regions has been given different names as a way of categorizing these different chemotypes. The objectively different sensations felt from different chemotypes of kratom are attributed to the ranging levels of the various alkaloids produced by the plant.
